I have always been fond of using metal rods or wire as an artistic media. I thinks it’s the fact that it is linear – line work you would find in a drawing. I remember constructing a complex ferris wheel out of brass rod stock while in college. It was quite large perhaps 14″ tall. It was sadly destroyed in a moving van incident.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS.

With the advent of purchasing a micro-welding system I was back in my happy zone; being able to work in rod stock again. The new Orion Micro-pulse welder I purchased allowed me the ability to weld directly on ceramic pieces without breaking the ceramics from excess heat. I had broken many a fine piece trying to weld metal with a tig welding system. It was just too hot. The micro-pulse welder was so localized that I could hold a piece in my fingers and not feel the heat. Yet it would weld perfect welds.
